Living each day giving great thanks for endless blessings!  After 37 years of marriage I love and appreciate my Michael even more than when we began.  Our life in Santa Fe is filled with wonderful friends, a wealth of all art forms, spectacular vistas and skies, and riotous color. Please come visit! Michael still works way too hard at his law practice but is actually contemplating retirement in a few years.  I teach equipment Pilates but hardly consider it work, because it brings me so much joy and fulfillment.  But of course our daughters are at the centers of our hearts and the greatest joy-givers of all!  Amelia (33) is an actress in New York, married her Robert (also an actor) 3 years ago, and is the very proud mother of 10-month-old Miss Zia Rose.  Yes, we are finally grandparents (and she was born not only on my birthday but on Michael's father's birthday)!!!!!  Cecily (30), also in New York, is a dancer with Trisha Brown Dance Company (and Shen Wei Dance Arts for 6 years prior) and travels the world performing.  She has been very much in love with her Ted for 7 years but dancing is her life, so she is not a fan right now of marriage or children :)  My mother is 94 and I shall never be as young as she is -- she says a big hello to all who remember her.  So excited to be in Tokyo again, hoping to see many of you there! Eager to connect and explore what life has been for so many of you.

Hmmmm. Having now seen Annie's, of course, more detailed comments, I thought I should add:

I am now exceedingly happily married to my second wife - a wonderful Mongolian woman I worked with during my escapades there.  We worked elbow to elbow in some of the harrowing conditions so many face in that very poor country.  And we fell in love and have been continuing our adventures now here in America.  We have two lovely daughters we adopted there, orphans from her family.  We have now been married 10 years and live in the Washington DC suburbs.  I have two amazing daughters from my first marriage of 29 years.  They both live near us and both work with me.  Just to keep up with Annie, the oldest, Emily, has recently given birth to my first grandchild. Her name is Paloma and I cannot adequately convey my pride and devotion.

My goodness it has been a long adventure since high school.  I have an engaging career and continuing deep connections with my sister Louise and her family.

I am, again, eager to meet up with all of you who attend.  There is so much to discuss about our lives, our worlds, our intentions.

Looking forward to it.

Billy

Bob Neff
Retired Married 1965
I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in July 1947. After growing up in Missouri and Nebraska for 13 years I moved with my missionary parents and siblings to Tokyo in 1960. I immediately enrolled as an ASIJ eighth grader in 1960 and continued at the school through high school graduation in 1965. During my senior year I served as student council president. College was at the University of Michigan, where I earned a B.A. in political science and was elected executive vice president of student government. Feeling a pull back to Japan, I boarded an ASIJ chartered flight to Tokyo in 1969 and wound up getting hired by Bill Ricketson to teach Problems of Democracy and run the high school guided studies center. Then I drew a low draft number and had to go back to my home town of Independence, Missouri, where I received conscientious objector status. That required two years of alternative civilian service, which I completed as a janitor at the University of Michigan hospital. During that time I decided to become a journalist so applied to and was accepted by the University of Missouri graduate school of journalism. After getting a master's there I took my first journalism job at Pacific Business News in Honolulu. One year of Hawaii was enough so I took a job near Bakersfield, California, as editor of the United Farm Workers' newspaper, working directly under Cesar Chavez.  That ultimately led to getting hired into the Los Angeles bureau of Business Week. After a year the magazine moved me to Tokyo as a correspondent in 1979. There I met my first and only wife, Fumiko Sekizawa, who now is a director at a small fund management company in Tokyo called Milestone Asset Management. I went on to become editor of Business Week's international edition and then Tokyo bureau chief. A few years ago I quit the magazine to become executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. I am now completely retired and living in a house Fumiko and I built in her home town of Hayama, Kanagawa prefecture, near Zushi. We never had kids.
