I've had what people refer to recently as a "portfolio career". I also refer to it as many lives.  My first life was a modern dancer and choreographer.  I performed with the Paul Taylor Dance Company after college and then established my own company while teaching at Juilliard and NYU Tisch School of the Arts.  The teaching was to pay my rent.  I lived in a large loft with nothing in it.  A delivery guy once said to me, "I like basketball but I don't live in a basketball court". Then, I met my husband who's a serial entrepreneur who wanted to go to Vietnam, the sleeping tiger (back in 1992), so I helped him build a bunch of businesses and realized that starting up a business was based on the same principles as producing a dance video or performance.  So, he still tends his garden of business in Vietnam.  From Vietnam we moved to Singapore so our daughter could attend a better school.  Around that time, a friend from college who had worked in the Clinton administration asked me to help the Clinton Foundation start up a public health program in China.  I worked for the Foundation in several management roles for health and climate change in Asia and just finished last fall.  I'm now working as a board member for a couple of different fun projects and Hillary's campaign.  We still live in Singapore and our daughter is in New York City.   Send Ruby a MessageSend Ruby a Message

Commercial Diver Married 2 1964
Hello ASIJers,
Sometime ago wandering about in Maryland and DC during the early 70's I remember Billy Picon telling me that our years at ASIJ and living in Japan  were some of the best times of his life. I completely agreed! 1960, my first day of school, leaning on the wooden banister in the main building of the Naka-Meguro campus, after having moved 5 times throughout Asia, I needed a friend. Ricky Omata came up and introduced himself. We became buddies, and went on to become co-captains of the Far East Championship basketball team.
What a life! I still feel like that same kid, just with more moans and groans in the morning. I could not find my Chochins to revisit our younger selves, so I hope we have large nametags. Give me an extra moment while I shake the dust from the machinery of memories.

Currently my wife Deborah (married 34 years) and I live in Redondo Beach, CA, where we raised 2 great sons. Many of you have met Deborah in Hawaii, Seattle, and San Francisco.  Andrew is 31, finishing his 1st year of residency in emergency medicine at USC County Hospital (code black). Nick is 28 and after 4 years of teaching middle school science, has joined me in my commercial diving/fishing business harvesting sea urchins and sea cucumbers. We also work supporting environmental groups doing whatever needed underwater. We currently are restoring kelp habitat around the Palos Verdes Penninsula for The Santa Monica Bay Foundation.

Deborah and I are so excited to be going to Japan for this trip! After the reunion we will be going to Nikko for a couple of days and then down to Kyoto for 4 days. Good People, we have a lot of catching up to do.
See you very soon,
Terry '64

p.s. My son Andrew married a former ASIJ student, Alyson Bourne, class of 2002, after meeting at Middlebury College in Vermont. Small, small world!
